About: Dr Godwin O. Akaba is an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and currently works as a Senior lecturer in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Abuja and as an Honorary Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in the Materno-fetal medicine unit of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada, Abuja. He is a graduate of the University of Jos and had his Postgraduate Medical Education in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the West African College of Surgeons.He also has a Master’s degree in Medical sociology due to his interest in community health and implementation science research related activities In his current role he is involved in coordination of research activities, training/mentoring of undergraduates/postgraduate medical doctors while offering clinical services in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. His research interests are improving maternal and perinatal health in developing countries, health system strengthening towards prevention of maternal and perinatal deaths, Haemoglobinopathies in pregnancy, Preeclampsia/eclampsia, Epidemiology of maternal infections and perinatal outcomes. He has a broad background in maternal and perinatal health, with specific training and expertise in these key research areas. Towards building his capacity on taking leadership roles in researches related to maternal and perinatal health he has attended several conferences and short courses in Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, United Kingdom, Japan, USA and Thailand. He is a Member of The United Kingdom Research and Innovation (UKRI) International Development Peer Review College. He has also collaborated with international principal investigators and served as institutional lead on several researches on maternal and child health that has impacted positively on maternal and neonatal health in Nigeria and globally
